Hosted by the University of Maryland’s National Center for Smart Growth, host of the PLCC, this event brought together 100 PLCC members and partners representing public, private and community stakeholders for the first annual progress meeting, since the signing of the Purple Line Community Development Agreement (CDA) in late 2017, to take stock, look ahead and organize for PLCC’s future collective work.

The agenda was designed to help PLCC and partners:

    • Assess progress toward the goals since the 2017 CDA signing event
    • Review current conditions in the Purple Line corridor
    • Continue to align our efforts and find synergies
    • Develop a collective work plan for moving forward

Speakers included:

    • County Executive Marc Elrich, Montgomery County
    • Floyd Holt, Office of Prince George’s County Executive
    • Mike Madden, MDOT Maryland Transit Administration
    • Fred Craig, Purple Line Transit Partners
    • Celeste James, Kaiser Permanente
    • David Bowers, Enterprise Community Partners
    • Gerrit Knaap, National Center for Smart Growth, UMD

The afternoon program engaged participants in breakout discussions around each of the four community development goals to identify key priorities and next steps to advance the Purple Line Community Development Agreement.

    • Housing: Housing Opportunities for All Income Levels
    • Small Business: Small Business Preservation & Sustainability
    • Workforce: Thriving Labor Market and Effective Workforce Development
    • Neighborhoods/Community: Vibrant, Thriving Neighborhoods that Preserve Culture and Character

PLCC looks forward to engaging additional stakeholders as our work expands in each of these goal areas.
